'Studs, Locos y Duds'
- previously known as 'Loco
for Love' -
by Albert Leon
. . .
The story centers around
the life of a simple minded,
thirty-something year old Hispanic man
by the name of Emilio Escopito.
As a result of focusing too much
on his relationship
with live-in girlfriend Laura
and not enough on work,
Emilio is fired from his job
as a Realtor.
Making matters worse,
Emilio chooses to take his senile
grandfather
in rather than send him off
to a nursing home,
only to then find out that Laura
has been sleeping around
with a mysterious “blond-haired
man”.
It is then that Emilio learns
from grandpa,
that it isn’t Emilio’s fault
that he’s been unable to carry on
with any of his previous relationships.
The Escopito men are cursed,
and this “blond-haired man”
is none other than part of an ancient curse
that runs in the Escopito family.
And so Emilio is left with the
undaunted task
of ridding himself of this dreaded
"curse" and finally put an end
to the suffering he and his
family
have had to endure.
A satirical study
of "unconventional" love, "Studs..."
takes a look at the hang-ups
or "curses" that men and women
have developed throughout the years,
that have made the simple action
of falling in love
more dangerous and complex
than it ought to be.
