'Riptide'
by Suzi Olsen
. . .
In 1959,
Kate the rebellious daughter of a wealthy San Diego family,
suddenly breaks off her engagement to a banker
and runs off with a Mexican lover,
leaving behind a mysterious
trail of blood.
In 1980,
Kate's niece Maggie disappears off the coast of Baja,
allegedly dragged to her death
by a riptide.
Fourteen years later,
Maggie's twin sister Terry is called home by her father
to rescue her mother from
alchoholic suicide.
During that visit,
Terry and her mother are haunted by ghosts, flashbacks and dreams,
which inspire them to check out
the proverbial family closet.
Along comes William,
an enigmatic young man from the twins' past,
who holds the key to the door. Out tumbles not only skeletons
but over half a century of secrets and lies perpetrated by
the family matriach, who lies helpless - - but still powerful
- - on her deathbed.
Incest, adultery and
murder
are revealed and committed, before the family
ultimately finds peace through
redemption and
forgiveness.
