'The Milk Carton Mission'
by Jenna Glatzer
. . .
How would you like to produce
a family movie
that parents will enjoy as much
as their children?
Here it is.
Darcy, a brilliant 11 year-old,
convinces her five best friends
to go on a cross-country mission
to find her real father.
Their worried parents offer a
reward
for the return of these missing
children.
As the children travel,
they are followed by the police,
their parents,
and a bounty-hunting older brother
named Abe.
Having vowed their eternal friendship,
the kids tough it out, even
when faced with sleeping in junkyards,
selling their bikes for bus
tickets, and eating nothing but peanut butter
and HoHos for a week.
The first two paternal possibilities
turn out to be hilarious impossibilities:
one is a drag queen,
the other is 95. The third man
is a casino junkie, deeply in debt,
who kidnaps the kids for the
reward money.
Meanwhile, Abe has lost his car,
had his wallet and pants stolen,
been tossed in jail, changed his identity,
and escaped, leaving his best
friend to perish at the hands of Lars,
their formidable cellmate.
In the end,
Abe has a change of heart, rescues
the children,
and kidnaps the kidnapper.
