'The Closer You Get'

LISA PARKS is an abused woman.
Her only comforts in life are her kids and reliving the fantasy
that she is once again in the arms of
an old high school sweetheart,
RUSS WALTERS.

Songs are three for a quarter and so are
Lisa' memories.

EARL PARKS enjoys keeping his wife in line
with a slap or two now and again. Lisa has learned to live with it
until she discovers that Earl has been abusing
their twelve-year-old son,
DEREK.

Russ Walters, the Hollywood icon,
is interested in Lisa -- picking up where they left off a dozen years ago.
Russ, though, is not exactly the flaming star Lisa remembers
during her high school years.

Along with
the bitterness of a failed marriage,
a husband who has just lost their house in a poker game,
you see a woman desperately searching for a way out.
To add to the cauldron of discontent, Lisa's son, Derek,
has run away from home and daughter, JOANNA,
has attempted suicide.

Earl's scars on them run bone marrow deep.

Russ takes a stab at rejoining Lisa.
It is not meant to be even though the word is out
that Derek is the son of Russ Walters, a product of a heated romance
way back when.

Along with her kids,
and without Earl haunting their every move,
Lisa drives out of town in search of a new beginning.
Russ Walters can only wish them well. Lisa Parks has come of age.
Any memories she has are fond ones, and the future
is waiting patiently with
a pen in hand.
