'Hunting Bears'

"Alex Geddes",
a chubby gay kid whose best friend is Jesus,
comes out of the closet to his Born-Again mother "Brigid".
She summarily kicks him out
of the house.

Athough he's on his own
with half a semester left of high school, he enthusiastically
attempts to join the gay community of Denver, Colorado.
It's harder than he realizes however, since most gay men
assume he's straight with his weight
and all.

Still,
Alex manages to be the valedictorian of his class
and to torpedo his mother's school board campaign,
even as he's accepted to
Dartmouth.
