“The Search for the Golden Boomerang”
by Barry David Ledden

. . .

Steri O'Toole
(played by young American actor)
has to travel to Australia and "top" an achievement
of his famous father "One Off O'Toole" in order to collect
his inheritance.

Steri is well educated and sohphisticated
but naive at the same time.

The central theme is
the "stanger in a strange land" and as the story unfolds
there is plenty of scope to feature Australian tourist attractions,
and unique cultural and geographic aspects of Australia
as well as many colourful Australian characters
that populate the story.

Steri travels the length and breadth of Australia
following clues to trace his father and continually running into
his fathers mates - all colourful characters.

Steri accomplishes
some remarkable feats similar to his fathers,
but there is always someone present who recalls
one of his fathers feats that
eclipses Steri's.

These amazing feats (both Steri's and One Off's)
are told and conducted with the Australian talent of combining
gross exaggeration with mild understatement.

The script employs satire, sight gags,
and the overiding humour of the stranger in a strange land.
eg. when Steri leaves the US, Customs Officers examining his luggage
are amused and mystified by the Australian items in his luggage
- dingo traps, a billy, a hat with corks, swag etc.

Customs Officers in Australia are equally amused,
but they know what the items are, which Steri does not,
and they wonder why anyone would bring such commonplace items
into Australia.
