'Gifts'
by John J Thomson
. . .
"GIFTS" is
a comedy
about Christmas, magic, and the true meaning of Christmas:
the gift of love.
It is a cross between
"Scrooge" ("A Christmas Carol")
meets "It’s a Wonderful Life" with the twist of "Miracle
on 34th Street."
"GIFTS" is
about Mugsy Furlorn,
who is bitter about his life, dislikes children, and can't stand Christmas.
Due to some circumstances he ends up having to spend Christmas
with his single mother neighbor, Kristy Ardor, her five trouble-making
children, and their senile Grandfather
who all don't get along.
The children dislike
Mugsy Furlorn
as they don’t want him to take the place of their father
who has passed away.
This conflict leads to
some comical situations,
and ends with severe character changes in the children and Mugsy Furlorn
when he learns the true meaning of Christmas and his heart is mended
by the senile Grandfather who changes into Santa Claus
on Christmas Eve.
At the end of the story
Kristy Ardor and Mugsy Furlonr fall in love, a new family unit is established,
and the magic and love that Christmas represents destroys the anger
which lingers in the hearts of
the characters in the story.
