'The Mississippi Mudmen'
by Jim Yoakum
. . .
At the peak of his stardom,
a 1960's rock star named Alan Bird fakes his own death
in order to "get back to his freedom, man" (it IS the 1960s!),
only to discover that life in the 1990's is hard for
a "dead man."
Robbed of his name and
source of income,
Alan is reduced to forever assuming aliases and pulling small time scams
in order to survive.
It is only when he hooks-up
with an up-and-coming young rock band with more looks than brains
that Alan manages to find his way back on top -
only to have it all threaten to collapse on him
when his past comes looking
for him.
