The X Factor- Are you CPO of the Year?

Published: 1 month, 3 weeks ago

The Faculty is inviting all Asia-Pacific CPOs to participate in The X Factor – a major research project into CPO leadership.

The research project has been designed to identify leading CPOs and clarify the significant contributions they make to business success:

• What distinguishes the very best CPOs from the rest?
• What difference does the very best CPO make to business results?
• What business context enables CPOs to best demonstrate their leadership capabilities?

Participating CPOs and their organisations will directly benefit from a greater understanding of how to maximise the value a good CPO (and in turn their procurement function) can deliver including the ability to attract, retain and develop top talent in a competitive procurement market.

In addition, selected survey results will also be used to identify the “CPO of the Year” which will be awarded at the 5th Annual Asia-Pacific CPO Forum Gala Dinner on 16th May 2012 at the Hyatt Regency Coolum in Queensland. You may opt out of contention for the Award (although we strongly encourage you not to do so!) Completion of the survey is not affected by your opting out of the Award.

Dr Karen Morley of Karen Morley & Associates has been engaged to conduct the research project on behalf of The Faculty Roundtable. Karen has held senior leadership roles at Asia Pacific Centre for Leadership for Social Impact, Mt Eliza Executive Education and South Australian Premier’s Department.  Her work with leaders has spanned business, government and the not for profit sector. Karen is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and of the Australian Psychological Society and is a registered Psychologist. Karen’s PhD identified qualities for senior leadership success.  For five years she has led the Leadership Index, the only Australian research focusing on the challenges that leaders face in organisations.

The first stage of the research is an online survey.  Participation in the online survey involves the following:

• Survey completion by you, the CPO*, by 30th March 2012
• Survey completion by your immediate line manager or relevant C-level executive by 30th March 2012 (you will be required to brief them first and then forward them the “Manager’s” survey link)

* For the purposes of the research, to respond as the CPO you must be the most senior person with primary responsibility for procurement within your organisational reporting line. You must also reside within Asia-Pacific. If you believe you are not the appropriate person to participate please forward these communications to your CPO or if you are unsure, please contact us.

Following the online survey and its analysis, a short list will be identified for interviews which will be conducted between 16th and 30th April, either in person or by phone. To be considered for the Award, ALL four pieces of research data must be completed by 30th April.

A consolidated report of key findings will be available to those who participate in the survey. The report will identify current procurement practices in leading organisations, critical procurement leadership practices and provide a benchmark against which you can assess yourself and your team.
